[Portland, Oregon] – The Tina Kotek for Oregon campaign today announced that she has agreed to eight debates and candidate forums across the state. The Kotek campaign also challenged Republican candidate Christine Drazan and conservative candidate Betsy Johnson to agree to an issue-specific forum on gun safety policy, especially given Johnson’s recent flip-flopping on the issue.
The following letter was sent to both campaigns this afternoon:
Dear Ms. Sitton and Mr. Rosser,
Voters in Oregon will face a critical decision in the November election. They deserve to hear directly from the candidates about where they stand on important issues.
As Speaker of the House, Tina Kotek led the charge to guarantee paid sick and family leave, to increase the minimum wage, and to pass common sense gun safety reforms. Tina delivered new education funding to expand career and technical education and support students to improve graduation rates. Betsy Johnson and Christine Drazan have backed very different visions for Oregon. It is, therefore, critical that Oregonians have the opportunity to hear from each candidate about their values and track records.
To that end, Tina has agreed to the following eight debates and forums:
- Eastern Oregon Economic Summit, Hermiston, June 17th
- Oregon Newspaper Publishing Association Debate, Welches, July 29th
- City Club Gubernatorial Forum, Eugene, September 9th
- City Club Gubernatorial Forum, Salem, September 23rd
- OPB/Our Children Oregon Debate, October 22nd
- Traditional Gubernatorial debate sponsored by KGW News Channel 8 and the Oregonian in Portland
- Traditional Gubernatorial debate sponsored by KOBI TV/NBC 5 in Medford
- Forum on Gun Safety
Our campaign hopes you will join us in accepting these invitations so that we can move forward in finalizing the particulars of each forum.
Sincerely,
Meghan Cavanaugh
