[Portland, OR] – Today, former candidate for Governor and Pulitzer-prizing winning journalist Nick Kristof announced his endorsement of Tina Kotek for Oregon Governor.
“Oregon faces huge challenges, and we need real leadership. That’s Tina Kotek,” said Nick Kristof. “On housing, homelessness, education, she has actually led and made a real difference for Oregonians. That’s why I’m delighted to support her.”
“Leadership in part is about being willing to make tough choices. Tina Kotek can do that. She’s focused on the needs of people all across the state.”
“Tina is a bold thinker on some of the issues I care most about, such as addiction, housing and homelessness and the existential threat of climate change. She led the way in reducing zoning red tape to make it easier to build homes. She led in providing resources to Oregon schools. She brings the kind of focus and persistence that we need in Oregon’s next governor. That’s why I am proud to endorse her.”
On Tuesday, Tina Kotek secured an overwhelming victory in the state Democratic primary election. According to current data available from the Secretary of State’s office, Tina earned more than three times as many votes in the primary election than the leading Republican candidate.
“I am honored to have Nick Kristof’s endorsement,” said Tina Kotek, candidate for Governor. “As a journalist and as a candidate, Nick has been a leader in elevating the issue of mental health and addiction in Oregon and around the country. I look forward to working alongside him to tackle the pressing issues facing our state.”
Kotek and Kristof today participated in a tour of Fora Health, which recently opened a new treatment and recovery center in Portland focused on providing comprehensive addiction recovery services to Oregonians in need. During the tour, Tina and Nick discussed the urgent need to address the high rate of addiction in Oregon.
To date, Tina has earned the endorsements of over 30 prominent organizations, including pro-choice, environmental, labor and civil rights organizations. Tina has also earned the support of over 60 state and local elected officials.
