[Portland, OR] – Today, Tina Kotek, candidate for Governor, issued the following statement regarding Idaho’s new restrictions on abortion:
“Direct threats to reproductive freedom reached our state this week. Idaho’s decision to enact a dangerous Texas-style abortion ban will have significant consequences, not only for Idaho residents but also for Eastern Oregon residents who currently receive reproductive health care services from nearby Idaho health care providers.
“Everyone deserves the right to make personal health care decisions regardless of their zip code, and Idaho’s extreme new abortion law undermines this right. With the Supreme Court poised to overturn Roe vs. Wade by this summer, Oregon abortion providers could be inundated with out-of-state patients.
“Under my leadership as House Speaker, we protected abortion rights for all Oregonians, passing the nation’s strongest abortion access law. As Governor, I will ensure that we are able to support Oregonians who will be forced to travel hundreds of miles to the nearest provider, as well as Idahoans who will seek refuge in Oregon to access reproductive health care.”
