[Portland, OR] – Today, Tina Kotek, Oregon’s Democratic candidate for Governor, issued the following statement regarding the United States Supreme Court’s decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen:
“Just weeks after 19 children were murdered in an elementary school in Texas, the Trump-dominated Supreme Court has issued a ruling that will increase the number of guns on the streets in cities and towns across the country. It will make communities less safe.
“I am calling on Congress to immediately pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. From there, we will still have a very long way to go.
“As Oregon’s next governor, I am committed to addressing our crisis of gun violence. So far, both of my NRA-approved opponents have refused my invitation to have a forum focused on gun violence. When it comes to the race for the highest office in Oregon, I am the only candidate for Governor who has the proven track record and courage to fight for common-sense gun violence prevention policies.”
Tina has been endorsed by Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and earned the “Gun Sense Candidate” seal of approval from Moms Demand Action. Meanwhile, both Betsy Johnson and Christine Drazan have earned perfect ratings from the National Rifle Association for their repeated votes against gun violence prevention policies in the state legislature.
